Let's Expand The Sky – in Colour

Hugo Roelandt: Let's Expand the Sky in Colour  is the second and final part of the comprehensive retrospective dedicated to Antwerp-based performer, photographer, video and installation artist Hugo Roelandt (1950-2015), curated by Marc Holthof.

While the first exhibition focused on the artist's works in black and white from the 1970s and 1980s, here Holthof makes a selection from Roelandt's photographic, video and light works in colour from the 1970s and the last 20 years of Roelandt's career. Having experimented with self-portraiture, performance and what he called ‘post-performance’, Roelandt's work from the 1990s and 2000s shows that he was not only a subtle installation artist but also a colourist of the highest order.

Let's Expand the Sky — in Black and White and Let's Expand the Sky in Colour  are the first two projects of the Hugo Roelandt Research Project, a collaboration and research partnership between Objectif Exhibitions, M HKA, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp and Argos.
